King Charles and Queen Camilla met with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House on Friday. Buckingham Palace confirmed the gathering took place at the monarch’s private residence in Gloucestershire, characterizing the event as a private family meeting.
This visit marks the first instance in over four years that the King has spent time with Archie and Lilibet. It also represents the first time Prince Harry and Meghan have been in the United Kingdom together since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. While Prince Harry has visited the country for various engagements throughout the week, including an Invictus Games event in Birmingham, Meghan and the children did not participate in his public duties.
This encounter is notable given the well-documented friction in royal relations since the couple stepped back from their official duties in 2020. Reports indicate that both the King and his son sought to arrange this time together. Meanwhile, Prince William participated in a charity polo match in Windsor, and there are currently no arrangements for him to meet with his brother during this trip. The King previously conducted official duties in Oxfordshire earlier in the day before returning to his private home to host his family.
