Authorities have initiated a homicide investigation following the discovery of former British cabinet minister and Reform UK representative Ann Widdecombe, who was found dead at age 78 at her residence in Haytor, Dartmoor.
Devon and Cornwall Police arrived at the home on July 9 around 11:40 a.m. after being alerted by ambulance staff. Upon arrival, they found Widdecombe deceased with severe injuries. Officials are treating the incident as suspicious.
The Force Major Crime Investigation Team is currently leading the inquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson stated that police are actively searching for a male suspect, described as white, in connection with the event. While the investigation remains in its infancy, authorities are utilizing significant resources to identify those responsible.
DCI Rosson has requested public assistance, specifically asking for any dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage from the Haytor Vale vicinity. She also cautioned against spreading speculation, noting that unverified claims could damage the investigation and hurt the victim’s grieving family. A heavy police presence remains at the scene while forensic teams conduct their work. Her management team expressed their deep grief, noting the trauma of the situation and requesting privacy for the family.
