Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and APC gubernatorial candidate Bola Oyebamiji have leveled competing accusations against one another regarding the alleged purchase of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 election. Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, claimed that APC operatives are systematically collecting PVCs and PINs from voters, specifically targeting regions where the Accord Party holds significant influence. He suggested that this scheme is designed to alter voter data and disenfranchise residents, even alleging that some citizens are being coerced into taking oaths as part of the process. Adeleke has formally requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) investigate these reports and monitor for potential insider involvement.
Conversely, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji used a campaign event at Sabo Market in Osogbo to warn the public against trading their voting credentials for cash. Oyebamiji contended that certain individuals are bypassing direct card collection by inviting youths to local government offices to obtain their banking information in exchange for money. He urged the electorate to protect their PVCs and remain vigilant against such deceptive practices. As the election approaches, both candidates continue to spar over integrity issues while campaigning for the upcoming gubernatorial vote, which features 14 cleared candidates in total.
