Manchester United nearing agreement for goalkeeper Karl Darlow

Manchester United are reportedly close to signing free agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow to bolster their depth ahead of the pre-season schedule.

Manchester United are on the verge of acquiring veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer. The 35-year-old became a free agent after his departure from Leeds United at the end of June. During his time in West Yorkshire, Darlow made 22 appearances in the Premier League, ending the season as manager Daniel Farke’s preferred choice between the posts. He currently serves as the starting goalkeeper for the Wales national team.

This pending recruitment is expected to facilitate the departure of Altay Bayindir, who acted as a backup to Manchester United’s primary keeper, Senne Lammens, for much of the previous campaign. With Radek Vitek also likely to depart following a successful loan spell at Bristol City, head coach Michael Carrick sought reinforcements. This need arose because 40-year-old Tom Heaton has not seen first-team action since February 2023. Pending the finalization of the deal, Darlow is slated to join the squad for their pre-season tour, starting with a match against Wrexham in Helsinki on July 18.
