Okada rider apprehended for abducting three-year-old in Delta

A commercial motorcyclist has been arrested in Delta State for kidnapping a three-year-old girl who was under his care for school transportation.

Delta State authorities have taken a commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, into custody for the kidnapping of a toddler placed under his supervision. The suspect reportedly demanded a ransom of N500,000 from the child’s parents, which was paid before the girl was safely returned.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed that the parents had employed Ogaga to transport their daughter to school daily for a fee of N10,000 per month. After three weeks of consistent service, he kidnapped the girl instead of dropping her off. Ogaga initially sought N2 million in ransom, threatening the family against involving law enforcement.

Following the family’s report to the police, the demand was lowered to N500,000. Once the money was delivered and the victim was safe, intelligence officers tracked down Ogaga. During interrogation, he admitted to the abduction, claiming he was driven by financial desperation and prompted by an associate named Omo. He also implicated his girlfriend in the plot.

Edafe noted that investigations are continuing to apprehend remaining suspects. He urged parents to exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough background checks when hiring individuals to assist with child transportation.
