Abia State University Governing Council Begins Search for Next Vice-Chancellor

Abia State University has established a search committee to identify candidates for its next Vice-Chancellor, aiming to find a leader for the institution’s digital-age future.

The Governing Council of Abia State University (ABSU) has officially formed a search committee tasked with finding the school’s 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor. During the inaugural meeting held at the Council Chamber, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, stated that the move follows Section 12(2)(b) of the Abia State University Law.

This law requires a formal search team to locate and suggest suitable candidates for the council to review. Rt. Hon. Agwu noted that committee members were chosen for their professional integrity and backgrounds, ensuring various interests are represented. He instructed the team to be thorough, transparent, and consult widely to find a leader capable of guiding the institution through modern digital and technological demands.

The committee is expected to find a successor for the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, as his term nears its end. Rt. Hon. Agwu praised Professor Okeudo for his commitment and efforts in improving the university’s administrative and academic standards. Professor Onwubiko Dike, chairing the search team, promised that the group would perform its duties with fairness and responsibility. Other committee members include Professors Anthony Obike, Mary Oluchi Iwuagwu, and Sam Agu, along with Dr. Osita Igbe and secretary Dr. Uchenna Kalu.
