Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, revealed that a significant portion of the infrastructure completed under his administration consists of legacy projects awarded roughly 15 to 16 years ago. During a recent media briefing in Abuja, the Minister stated that this effort aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to prevent the abandonment of public works.
Wike noted that the FCTA prioritized finishing these stalled projects to ensure consistent development. He explained that if these works had remained incomplete, it would have hindered the impact of newer initiatives. By focusing on these long-neglected contracts, the administration successfully finalized nearly 70 percent of them. The Minister emphasized that this strategy of completion was essential to maintaining urban progress within the capital.
