Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, has praised the federal government for its major overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He believes the changes will transform the program into a hub for skill development and economic progress. During a discussion in Osogbo, Oyintiloye stated that this initiative supports the goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy by ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the modern job market.
The updated model shifts the focus from traditional service to a structure rooted in innovation and professional competence. Corps members can now choose from various specialized tracks, such as Agriculture, Tech and Digital, Medical, Infrastructure, and the Creative Economy, among others. These paths are designed to match a participant’s educational background with current workforce demands.
Oyintiloye highlighted that this is the most significant update to the NYSC since its creation in 1973. By prioritizing practical training during the orientation phase, the government aims to boost productivity and lower youth unemployment rates. He expressed optimism that these changes will modernize the scheme while still maintaining its founding goal of national unity following the Civil War.
