The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the initiation of an investigation into a vessel named Bravo Alero, which was recently seized by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) FORMOSSO off the coast of Brass, Bayelsa State. The vessel was found carrying 200 liters of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). The EFCC stated that its Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate has begun looking into the matter following the handover of the vessel from the Navy. The investigation will focus on potential involvement in oil theft within the Niger Delta region, with the possibility of subsequent prosecution for those found responsible.

Captain Ifeanyichukwu Mabeokwu of NNS FORMOSSO expressed gratitude to the EFCC for taking on the investigation of the vessel Bravo Alero. He conveyed his confidence in the EFCC’s ability to thoroughly investigate and potentially prosecute those involved in the illegal oil activities. Captain Mabeokwu also promised continued collaboration between the Navy and the EFCC in combating illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.

In response, Chief Superintendent Shittu Babatunde of the EFCC assured the Navy of a prompt and professional investigation into the case. This cooperation highlights the ongoing efforts between Nigerian security agencies to address and mitigate illegal oil activities in the region.
