Wales Secure Victory Against Fiji in Nations Championship Opener

Wales defeated Fiji 39-24 in the Nations Championship opener, marking their first back-to-back international wins in three years behind a strong performance from Jac Morgan.

Wales achieved a 39-24 victory over Fiji in their Nations Championship opening match at Cardiff City Stadium, marking their first consecutive international wins in three years. Flanker Jac Morgan stood out during the contest, securing two tries and earning player-of-the-match honors for his impressive defensive work.

Although Fiji controlled the majority of attacking statistics, Wales displayed superior clinical execution and set-piece strength, particularly through effective driving mauls. Wales benefited from second-half tries by Rhys Carre, Josh Adams, Ryan Elias, and Eddie James. Fiji countered with scores from Pita Gus Sowakula, Elia Canakaivata, and Selestino Ravutaumada, supplemented by nine points from the boot of Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula.

The match was held in front of 16,456 spectators at the home of Cardiff City Football Club, as the Fijian side is currently utilizing venues across the United Kingdom for home fixtures. Preparation for the game had been slightly disrupted by a brief dispute regarding player match fees between the squad and the Welsh Rugby Union, though head coach Steve Tandy confirmed that training schedules remained unaffected.

With this result, Wales successfully navigated past a higher-ranked opponent, showcasing fitness and tactical discipline to close out the match strongly following a 10-10 tie at the halftime break.
