The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating a mix of sunny conditions and clouds from Saturday through Monday. In a report published Friday in Abuja, the agency detailed the expected climate patterns across various geopolitical zones.
For Saturday, the northern region will see sunny skies with occasional clouds. However, early morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are anticipated in Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna. Later in the day, these weather conditions are expected to spread across Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. The North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, will likely experience similar storms.
On Sunday, NiMet predicts morning storms in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba, with broader coverage in the north by the evening. The southern states should expect light morning rain in coastal areas like Lagos, Rivers, and Cross River, followed by more widespread thunderstorms throughout the day.
By Monday, the north will transition from partially cloudy skies in the morning to afternoon thunderstorms. The North Central region will begin with sunny spells before experiencing storms. The southern region is forecast to be largely cloudy, with light rain expected in states such as Edo, Delta, and Akwa Ibom, followed by more intense rain later.
NiMet has issued safety guidance, advising citizens to secure loose items due to potential strong winds. Drivers are cautioned against traveling through flood waters, and the public is urged to unplug electrical appliances during storms. Furthermore, NiMet recommended that airline operators consult specific airport weather reports to ensure safe flight operations. Residents can stay updated via the official NiMet website.
