Governor Adeleke dismisses claims of protecting criminals, invites police to arrest offenders

Governor Ademola Adeleke has refuted claims that he is sheltering criminals in the Osun Government House, challenging the police to arrest any offenders, including his own family members.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has firmly rejected reports suggesting that his administration is providing sanctuary to criminal suspects at the Government House in Osogbo. During a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu on Friday, the governor asserted that any individual involved in illegal acts should be apprehended, regardless of their family ties to him.

Addressing the police leadership, Governor Adeleke stated, If any of my relatives, even my own son, commits a crime, they must be arrested. He stressed that he does not condone criminal behavior and expects justice to be served impartially. However, the governor also criticized certain police personnel for unprofessional conduct. He highlighted a specific case in Ilobu where an officer was reportedly transferred after successfully arresting a suspect involved in the murder of a 14-year-old boy, suggesting this move undermined the pursuit of justice.

Inspector-General Disu explained that the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had reported that suspects were allegedly hiding within the Government House. Disu noted that he has received various complaints regarding the state police command’s performance and has instructed the commissioner on how to proceed. Furthermore, the Inspector-General addressed broader concerns, noting reports that various political groups across the state might be sheltering individuals involved in criminal activities.

Governor Adeleke welcomed the Inspector-General’s public commitment to tackling police misconduct and maintaining law and order. He emphasized his willingness to collaborate with law enforcement, provided that officers conduct their duties with integrity and fairness.
