Legal Analyst Urges Prosecution in Uche Nnaji Certificate Forgery Case

Lawyer Liborous Oshoma discusses the arrest of former Minister Uche Nnaji over certificate forgery allegations, calling for prosecution to address systemic failures in government vetting processes.

Legal practitioner Liborous Oshoma has addressed the controversy surrounding Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, regarding allegations of certificate forgery. During a television appearance, Oshoma discussed the Department of State Services’ (DSS) recent apprehension of Nnaji and his subsequent handover to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Oshoma credited investigative reports for bringing the issue to light, noting that initial administrative investigations confirmed that Nnaji’s university and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) documents were fraudulent. He argued that since these documents were utilized to secure federal appointments and compensation, the government should evaluate the legality of his tenure, potentially seeking the return of salaries paid during that period.

The analyst dismissed claims that this is merely a product of Enugu State political infighting, asserting that an individual who presents fraudulent credentials must accept the consequences regardless of political motivations. He emphasized that the situation highlights systemic failures in the screening processes conducted by both the DSS and the Senate, which previously granted Nnaji clearance.

Addressing reports that Nnaji evaded previous invitations from the ICPC, Oshoma characterized this as a display of entitlement common among high-ranking officials. He urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the prosecution proceeds without interference, warning that providing a soft landing for the former minister would damage the administration’s credibility, especially given prior public scrutiny regarding the president’s own credentials. Oshoma stressed that firm action is necessary to restore national integrity on the international stage.
