Maurice Vonobolki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Adamawa governorship in 2027, has declared that the influence of political godfathers in the state is a thing of the past. Upon his arrival at Yola International Airport with his certificate of return, Vonobolki asserted that this shift began in 2019 when Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri secured office.
He characterized the old system of godfatherism as a political ailment that was removed when voters chose Fintiri without relying on external power brokers. Vonobolki emphasized that governance should belong to the public, pledging to ensure that citizens maintain control over their administration. Regarding internal party dynamics, he dismissed claims of divisions, stating that the issuance of certificates of return confirms that the PDP remains a cohesive unit.
While acknowledging that some unsuccessful aspirants have sparked minor disputes, he maintained that internal processes supervised by the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are legitimate. He encouraged those who feel dissatisfied to reconcile with the party, expressing total confidence in the PDP’s success for the 2027 general elections. Furthermore, he affirmed the party’s stability under the national leadership of Honourable Abraham Mohammed.
