Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka appears likely to remain with his current club throughout the summer transfer window, notwithstanding persistent interest from Chelsea. The Swiss international, who is tied to the club until 2028, initially showed interest in a potential reunion with his former Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge.
Sunderland management swiftly dismissed an 8 million pound offer from Chelsea last week. Although the London club was anticipated to propose a higher fee, club officials have confirmed that the 33-year-old midfielder is not available for transfer. Following internal talks, Xhaka has confirmed he will stay with the Black Cats.
Despite this, Chelsea insiders suggest the former Arsenal player remains interested in a move to the capital, leaving the possibility of a future bid uncertain. Xhaka proved instrumental in his debut season at Sunderland, appearing in 34 league games and helping the team reach the Conference League after their best finish in over five decades.
Currently, Xhaka is participating in the World Cup held across the US, Mexico, and Canada. He has been a constant presence for Switzerland throughout their journey to the knockout stages.
