Emergency teams prevent potential disaster after gas tanker catches fire in Lagos

LASTMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully stopped a potential disaster after a leaking gas tanker caught fire along Ikorodu Road.

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) joined forces with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to prevent a massive disaster following a gas leak incident at the Owode Elede section of Ikorodu Road. The situation unfolded after a six-tyre tanker encountered a mechanical breakdown while moving toward Ikorodu.

Upon inspection, responders identified a gas leak, which subsequently ignited. The combined efforts of the rescue teams successfully confined the flames, stopping the fire from escalating into a dangerous inferno that could have harmed the public and nearby infrastructure.

To maintain order, LASTMA officials diverted traffic using one available lane and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) path. This allowed vehicles to continue moving without significant delays throughout the operation. The General Manager of LASTMA praised the rapid coordination of the responders, noting that their speed was essential in avoiding a catastrophe. He also encouraged drivers to drive carefully and follow traffic laws to ensure safety for everyone on the road.
