Switzerland advanced to the next stage of the 2026 World Cup following a 2-0 victory over Algeria on Thursday at BC Place in Vancouver. The Swiss team now prepares to play the winner of the upcoming match between Ghana and Colombia.
Johan Manzambi initiated the scoring by driving down the left flank and delivering a precise cross to Breel Embolo, who tapped the ball into the net. Shortly after the second half began, Dan Ndoye secured the second goal by capitalizing on a poor clearance from Rafik Belghali, firing the ball through a defensive wall. Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane failed to make the save during a difficult match for his side.
With this result, Algeria becomes the latest African nation to exit the tournament during the round of 32, joining Ivory Coast, South Africa, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Currently, Morocco is the sole African team remaining in the competition.
