The Mubi chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a seven-day deadline to the Adamawa State government. They are demanding the settlement of overdue Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and warn that failure to comply will trigger a strike.
This ultimatum follows a previous warning issued by the ASUU Yola Zone, which represents public universities across Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno. Dr. Godwin Boniface, the Mubi branch chairman, explicitly urged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to honor the payment agreement. He noted that federal university staff have been receiving these payments since January 2026.
Dr. Boniface argued that the allowance is essential for maintaining high educational standards and supporting teaching activities. While he praised Governor Fintiri for providing competitive salaries, he emphasized that missing payments negatively impact staff motivation. Earlier in the week, Yola Zonal Coordinator Dani Mamman highlighted that the neglect by state governments has become intolerable, placing the burden of any potential system shutdown on state authorities who have failed to fulfill their obligations.
