According to reports from the German outlet Bild, Julian Nagelsmann is likely to be dismissed from his role as the head coach of the Germany national team. Following the 38-year-old’s struggles, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has emerged as the primary candidate to fill the vacancy. This comes after Germany faced a surprising exit in the last 32 of the World Cup following a loss to Paraguay.
Bild documented Nagelsmann visiting the German Football Association (DFB) headquarters in Frankfurt, where he was allegedly presented with a seven-million-euro severance deal. Although his contract was recently extended until 2028, pressure has mounted due to Germany’s recent history of early tournament exits. The penalty shootout defeat against Paraguay represents the third consecutive time the four-time world champions have failed to progress past the early rounds, marking a significant downturn for a nation that last won the trophy in 2014.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has already launched a formal inquiry into the national team’s performance, with a definitive decision on the coaching staff expected within the coming days. Meanwhile, various media sources, including Sky and Sueddeutsche Zeitung, have identified Klopp as the clear frontrunner for the position. Klopp, who transitioned into a global football leadership role with Red Bull after leaving Liverpool in 2024, is currently the top choice to lead the squad forward.
