Professional jockey Frankie Dettori has sustained multiple broken ribs and a fractured thumb following a road traffic collision, according to his management agency. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the vicinity of Newmarket, Suffolk. Representatives from H Talent Management explained that the 55-year-old was driving when his vehicle was struck on the rear passenger side by another car. The force of the impact caused Dettori’s vehicle to spin and eventually flip over.
Dettori is currently being monitored in the hospital while medical staff perform further scans to assess the full extent of his injuries. In a statement, his management team expressed gratitude toward the emergency responders and the hospital staff involved in his care. They have requested privacy while the jockey focuses on his recovery, noting that further information will be provided only when there is a significant update.
Although Dettori has not competed in Britain since his October 2023 victory at the Champion Stakes, he had been scheduled to participate in the upcoming Leger Legends race at Doncaster in September. Cambridgeshire Police have been contacted for information regarding the incident.
