Plateau Police Apprehend Two for Illegal Weapons Trade

Plateau State police have arrested two men for illegal arms trafficking, recovering multiple firearms and ammunition during the operation.

The Plateau State Police Command recently detained two individuals suspected of engaging in the illicit sale and possession of weapons. Authorities seized a homemade AK-47, an additional rifle, a pair of magazines, and 29 cartridges.

SP Alfred Alabo, the police spokesperson, announced the arrests on Wednesday. Intelligence officers and local Bukuru Division staff apprehended 40-year-old Yakubu Danladi Pam near Jos on June 22. Pam admitted to owning a locally-made gun, which he claimed was for self-defense.

Pam identified 19-year-old Abdulsalam Mohammed Hassan as his supplier. Following this lead, police took Hassan into custody, where he reportedly confessed to acting as a broker for illegal firearms. Officials recovered a Type 06 rifle and accompanying ammunition from him. Both men are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department as police search for additional participants in the trafficking ring.

Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah cautioned that unauthorized weapons possession remains a major security hazard. He pledged that the Command would continue its operations to secure the state and eliminate criminal networks.
