USA Advances to Round of 16 After 2-0 Win Over Bosnia and Herzegovina

The United States overcame a second-half red card for Folarin Balogun to defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0, securing a spot in the World Cup round of 16.

The United States national team secured a 2-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina this Wednesday, advancing to the World Cup round of 16. The match, held at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, resulted in the American team’s first knockout stage win in almost 25 years. Folarin Balogun provided the opening goal just before the halftime whistle, though his game ended prematurely when he received a straight red card following a VAR review for a foul on Tarik Muharemovic.

Despite playing with only 10 men, the U.S. squad maintained their composure. Malik Tillman sealed the victory in the 82nd minute by successfully curling a free kick past the Bosnian goalkeeper. This win sets up a future encounter against Belgium in Seattle. Reflecting on the result, coach Mauricio Pochettino expressed immense pride in his players’ collective effort, while Bosnia’s coach Sergej Barbarez noted that his squad should still take pride in their historic run to the knockout phase.
