Ten Dead and Homes Destroyed During Niger Ethnic Conflict

Renewed fighting between Fulani and Kamuku communities in Niger State has resulted in 10 deaths and significant property destruction, prompting government security intervention.

A recent violent confrontation between Fulani and Kamuku groups in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State has left at least 10 people dead and numerous homes burned. The conflict broke out on Tuesday within the villages of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, serving as a deadly continuation of a dispute that had already claimed one life several weeks prior.

Local inhabitants categorized this event as a retaliatory strike, noting that the victims included many women and children. They are urging authorities to intervene immediately to stop these persistent clashes.

Ayuba Usman Katako, the Chairman of the Rafi Local Government Area, verified that the incident occurred. While he refrained from providing a specific death toll, he emphasized that the government is committed to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators. Law enforcement and security teams have been stationed in the area to maintain order and safeguard the remaining population.
