A harrowing video has emerged depicting a man scaling the side of a building to escape an apartment fire in Antwerp. Thick clouds of dark smoke can be seen pouring from the structure behind him as he makes his way toward safety.
Belgian authorities have confirmed that the incident, which occurred in a 10-story residential complex shortly before 10:00 local time on Wednesday, resulted in at least six fatalities. Multiple individuals sustained injuries during the emergency. Initial police investigations point to a technical malfunction on the ground floor as the origin of the blaze.
During the incident, the individual captured on film was assisted into an adjacent window. Emergency responders evacuated 80 units within the complex, which serves as home to over 200 residents.
