IPMAN Clarifies Status of Fuel Sales Amid Market Deregulation

IPMAN officials have denied reports of a fuel sales halt, emphasizing that the current deregulated market environment allows for independent procurement and pricing strategies.

Musa Yahaya Mai Kifi, the Financial Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has refuted rumors that petrol sales will be discontinued across the nation. He clarified that recent reports were misinterpreted and insisted that the country has moved away from government-controlled pricing.

Mai Kifi explained that current policies allow marketers to procure fuel globally and sell it wherever they choose, citing Dangote Refinery’s recent exports as an example of this open market approach. Regarding domestic supply, he recommended a fixed pricing agreement for crude oil and refined products to ensure market stability from the refinery to the final consumer.

Furthermore, IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, disputed accusations of profiteering. He highlighted that many marketers are currently suffering losses due to fluctuating market prices and asserted that the association would oppose any efforts to force price controls within a deregulated environment.
