Starting Wednesday, Anthropic plans to reinstate global access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. This change follows formal notification from the Department of Commerce. These specific models, which compete with platforms like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, were unexpectedly disabled on June 12 amid fears they could assist hackers in identifying and exploiting system vulnerabilities.
Fable 5 is tailored for consumer usage, offering advanced reasoning capabilities for independent task management. Conversely, Mythos 5 is built for corporate clients and cybersecurity professionals, featuring the ability to analyze and potentially exploit software code. During the initial suspension, Anthropic expressed disagreement with the government’s actions, noting that officials cited a narrow potential for ‘jailbreaking’—a process used to circumvent safety protocols—as the justification for the global recall of these widely used tools.
