Families in Lassa, Borno State, are searching for 37 students who disappeared during a militant attack on Government Day Secondary School while exams were in progress.

Concerned families report that at least 37 students remain missing after an assault on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, located in the Askira/Uba area of Borno State. The incident occurred Monday morning while pupils were taking the National Examinations Council tests. During the violence, two teachers were killed, and an indeterminate number of students were seized.

Capt. Muhammed Goni, acting spokesperson for the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, stated that one soldier and one Civilian Joint Task Force member lost their lives during a subsequent rescue mission. While troops managed to save 10 victims near the Daggu area, many children remain lost.

Local authorities have established a registry to help families track the missing. Mbula Bura, whose daughter Esther is among the missing, confirmed that 37 names appear on the official list. Another parent, Emmanuel Dari, shared that his 16-year-old daughter was taken directly from her classroom, leaving families in a state of distress. A delegation led by Commissioner for Education Lawan Wakilbe has arrived in the town to evaluate the crisis. Resident Bitrus Milnda also noted that two of his relatives are among those currently held.
