Residents of Umabor Eha-Alumonah in Enugu State’s Nsukka Local Government Area are speaking out against years of systemic neglect. Despite supporting various administrations through several election cycles, the local population claims they have received little in return.
Visible signs of this abandonment include failing school infrastructure, hazardous roads, and inadequate medical facilities. These conditions culminated in a large-scale protest by local youth, who signaled that politicians seeking support for the 2027 elections should expect a different reception if the situation does not improve.
A primary point of contention is the Agu-Umabor Road. The deteriorating state of this route has stifled local trade and farming while creating security hazards, as locals report that criminal elements take advantage of the poor road conditions. Education is also suffering, with many schools falling into ruin. While the state government has introduced the Smart School initiative, residents note that distance and safety issues prevent many children from accessing these benefits.
Community leaders like Emmanuel Uzoh Ugwueze, spokesperson for the Umabor Unity Forum, have expressed deep disappointment over the lack of response to their recurring appeals. Residents clarify that they are not seeking special favors but rather the basic public services and security that other regions enjoy.
