Ronald Koeman has left his position as head coach of the Netherlands national team following their penalty shootout loss to Morocco in the World Cup round of 32.

Ronald Koeman has announced his resignation as the head coach of the Netherlands following the team’s elimination from the World Cup. The squad was knocked out in the round of 32 by Morocco during a match held in Monterrey, Mexico.

In a formal statement shared on Instagram, Koeman confirmed that he decided to step down shortly after the game. He expressed his personal disappointment, acknowledging that the team failed to achieve their goal of success in the tournament. He further emphasized that he accepts full responsibility for the outcome as the manager.

The Dutch team entered the tournament with high expectations but ultimately lost to Morocco in a penalty shootout. The match had ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time. Although the Netherlands held a lead late into the game due to a goal from Cody Gakpo, Morocco forced a tie with an equalizer from Issa Diop in the final moments of stoppage time.
