The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that three individuals were sent to a correctional facility after facing charges for the illegal sale of government mosquito nets. These nets were intended for free distribution as part of a public health initiative. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi stated on Tuesday that the arrests followed an investigation into reports of these supplies being sold for personal gain.
The accused are Rabbi Bennett, an employee of USAID stationed in Ife North Local Government Area, Opeyemi Ajibola, a commercial motorcyclist, and Aminu Ibrahim. Authorities began probing the situation on June 9, 2026, after receiving reports about the unauthorized disposal of state property. Investigators allege that on June 8, 2026, the trio sold six bundles totaling 300 mosquito nets that were meant to be provided to the public at no cost.
The plot was exposed when a dispute erupted between Bennett and Ajibola regarding the division of money earned from the illicit sale. After their apprehension, all three suspects reportedly confessed to their participation in the scheme. They have since appeared in court and remain in detention as the legal process continues. The police command emphasized its dedication to protecting public resources and ensuring accountability for anyone who compromises welfare programs.
