NDC Accuses APC of Sabotaging Democratic Processes Ahead of 2027

The Plateau State NDC claims the APC is using strategic litigation to stifle opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections, though the party asserts its legal status remains intact.

The Plateau State branch of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is actively eroding democratic principles. Party officials argue that the APC is orchestrating politically driven lawsuits to destabilize rival parties before the 2027 general elections.

Solomon Ndam, the NDC Plateau State Chairman, addressed the press in Jos on Tuesday. He maintained that the NDC continues to hold valid registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), refuting the implications of a recent Federal High Court decision in Lokoja. Ndam characterized the June 26, 2026, ruling as a manufactured legal action, asserting it was orchestrated by the Peace Movement Party, which he insists lacks official registration or legal standing.

To combat this, the NDC has filed an appeal along with motions for a stay of execution and an injunction, officially notifying the INEC Chairman. Ndam emphasized that no judicial directive exists to strip the NDC of its registration status. Furthermore, he confirmed that INEC has provided the party with access to its candidate nomination portal. The NDC successfully uploaded its presidential candidate on June 29 and is currently working to finalize nominations for legislative and gubernatorial positions within the commission’s established deadlines.
