The Nigerian government has officially reorganized the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation process into a new three-phase framework. This shift follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent approval of comprehensive reforms for the organization.
Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, explained that the updated orientation will span six weeks, divided into distinct segments. The initial two weeks emphasize national values, civic responsibility, and leadership training. Subsequently, the next two weeks focus on financial literacy, career development, and business planning. The final two weeks are dedicated to specialized training tailored to individual career interests.
To facilitate this, the program has introduced 11 specific career streams: Agric, Medical, Education, Tech and Digital, Legal, Public Service, Infrastructure, Green, Enterprise, Creative Economy, and Paramilitary and Security. Corps members will choose one of these paths during registration, ensuring that their orientation period directly prepares them for both their upcoming national service and future professional opportunities.
