For the second time within a fortnight, President Donald Trump has issued a formal demand for gasoline retailers to decrease fuel prices. Sharing his stance on Truth Social, the President argued that current prices are unjustifiable given that crude oil has dropped to $68 per barrel.
President Trump explicitly prohibited price gouging, labeling the practice illegal. He urged retailers to adjust their pricing immediately to better serve the public, suggesting a target of $2.50 per gallon. He further cautioned that companies failing to comply would face significant consequences.
Addressing the situation in California specifically, the President criticized the state’s high fuel taxes. He suggested that these levies are becoming disproportionately expensive compared to the cost of the fuel itself, characterizing the burden on California residents as government abuse. This follows a previous warning Trump issued last week aimed at major oil companies regarding similar pricing concerns.
