The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that domestic flight prices climbed 20.8 percent compared to the same period last year. In May 2026, the average cost for a single-journey flight reached N157,552, up from N130,361 in May 2025.
Data from the agency’s Transport Fare Watch indicates that Kano State saw the highest average ticket prices at N184,139.29, while Lagos State followed with N176,971.65. Conversely, Gombe State and Nasarawa State offered the most affordable options, with average fares of N135,800.61 and N138,999.14 respectively.
Broader transportation costs also surged across the country. Bus travel within cities rose 38.63 percent to N1,431.25, while intercity bus journeys saw a 21.89 percent hike to N9,699.55. Motorcycle taxi services, or Okada, experienced the steepest climb at 52.45 percent, reaching an average of N1,072.51. Additionally, water transport fares increased by 30.88 percent, averaging N2,276.48 per passenger.
