The Federal Executive Council has sanctioned the expenditure of approximately ₦2.078 trillion for road infrastructure improvements throughout ten states. This initiative is designed to modernize and extend the national transportation network. Works Minister Engr. David Umahi confirmed that 23 major projects were greenlit for Adamawa, Taraba, Ebonyi, Kwara, Cross River, Kogi, Lagos, Niger, Oyo, and Plateau.
These construction and rehabilitation efforts aim to improve regional connectivity, simplify the transport of goods and people, and encourage economic growth. Additionally, the council authorized a ₦15 billion increase for a road contract in Gashua, Yobe State, necessitated by rising costs, alongside ₦15.246 billion for the second phase of the Yola–Fufore–Gurin Road.
Regarding the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, the council finalized the operation and maintenance strategy. President Bola Tinubu has ordered that reconstruction work on damaged segments utilize concrete pavement technology to ensure durability. Furthermore, the Dangote Group will handle the reconstruction of 400.9 kilometres of roads under a ₦1.8325 trillion tax-credit agreement. Minister Umahi also noted that the first 118-kilometre portion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano road is finished, with the final 164 kilometres expected to be completed this November.
