Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru conducted a minor cabinet reshuffle on Monday, reassigning several commissioners to new roles to boost governance and support the state administration’s development goals. Barrister Ikeuwa Omebeh, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, announced the changes following a State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.
This reorganization follows the recent swearing-in of Professor Omari Omaka and Hon. Sylvester Nwenu Nwite as commissioners, alongside the inauguration of Hon. Felix Onyekachi Njoku as Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation. The governor urged these new appointees to focus on selfless service and the advancement of the People’s Charter of Needs policy.
Key reassignments include Chidiebere Onya moving to Youth and Sports Development, while Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu now heads Special Projects. Other shifts involve Hon. Sylvester Nwenu Nwite heading the Environment ministry, Professor Omari Omaka taking over Tertiary Education, and several others moving across departments like Solid Mineral Development, Water Resources, and Market Development. Governor Nwifuru mandated that all transitions be completed by the close of business on June 30, 2026.
Omebeh clarified that the reshuffle aims to optimize efficiency rather than address poor performance. He noted that the governor considered the specific expertise and professional backgrounds of each commissioner to ensure they are best positioned to serve the state. Furthermore, Omebeh confirmed that the Ministry of Aviation remains active under the supervision of its Permanent Secretary, despite the current lack of a commissioner.
