A conductor of a commercial bus was apprehended after stabbing a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official with a screwdriver. The altercation occurred at the Ile-Epo Market along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as the conductor attempted to stop officers from impounding his vehicle for traffic obstruction.

The suspect, Lekan Olasunkanmi, was taken into police custody at the Abattoir Police Division after the assault. The victim received immediate medical attention and is currently recovering. According to official reports, the confrontation began when the patrol team seized a Volkswagen bus, registered as LSR 989 XG, for creating a significant traffic jam.

During police questioning, Olasunkanmi admitted to using the screwdriver, claiming the stabbing was an accidental result of the struggle. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, strongly condemned the violence. He emphasized that the agency will not tolerate any form of assault on personnel performing their official duties. The government has vowed to prosecute those who violate public order, while urging road users to adhere to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
