Senator Dickson Vows to Contest Court Ruling on NDC Status

Senator Seriake Dickson asserts that the Nigeria Democratic Congress remains a validly registered political party and confirms plans to challenge a recent court ruling at the appellate level.

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the party continues to be a legally recognized entity. His statement comes in response to a Federal High Court decision in Lokoja that questioned the party’s registration status.

During a Sunday interview on Channels Television, Dickson confirmed that the NDC plans to file an appeal. He argued that the court exceeded its authority by revisiting a previous judgment, asserting that the judiciary should not sit on appeal over its own prior rulings.

Dickson emphasized that the NDC remains fully eligible to participate in electoral activities. He noted that the party successfully conducted primaries for all positions—ranging from state assembly to the presidency—and that these processes were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He added that the official submission of candidate names to INEC is a mere administrative formality that does not undermine the validity of the nominations.

Addressing party members, the former Bayelsa State governor stated that no deregistration has occurred. He indicated that the legal team is prepared to take the matter to the Supreme Court if necessary to overturn what he termed an irregular judgment. Furthermore, Dickson claimed the legal conflict has inadvertently bolstered the party’s public profile, leading to a surge in interest and new registrations on their website.
