Presidency dismisses Peter Obi as political threat to Tinubu

A presidential aide has declared that the Tinubu administration is not intimidated by Peter Obi, citing strong performance and electoral legitimacy as reasons why he no longer poses a threat.

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, has stated that the administration holds no fear regarding Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. During an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, Dare emphasized that the current government operates from a position of strength based on its policy performance.

Addressing calls for the President to step down, Dare argued that the government possesses the same right to reject such demands as others have to voice them, asserting there is no valid justification for a resignation. He highlighted that Nigeria operates under a fixed four-year election cycle for executive and legislative offices, which is the established mechanism for leadership changes. Dare concluded by stating that while Obi may have been perceived as a significant political challenge in the past, the current administration no longer views him as a threat or a nightmare, particularly noting that the President would not be defeated by him in Lagos again.
