Atiku Urges Tinubu to Emulate Buhari and Jonathan Regarding Opposition Parties

Atiku Abubakar has called on President Tinubu to avoid deregistering opposition parties, citing the examples of former Presidents Buhari and Jonathan.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to adopt the approach taken by his predecessors, Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan. Atiku noted that neither former leader sought to deregister opposition groups during their time in office.

This statement followed a legal move aimed at removing the Nigeria Democratic Congress from the register of political parties. Atiku argued that efforts to suppress political rivals are damaging to democracy and undermine trust in the country’s voting system.

Highlighting that legitimate popularity should be based on positive governance, the former Vice President suggested that if Tinubu’s policies were truly effective, he would have no reason to fear fair competition. He explicitly urged the current administration to follow the democratic precedents set by the previous two presidents.
