Dorcas Okechukwu, a school proprietor and Human Physiology graduate from Bauchi State, recently shared her harrowing experience of being misidentified as deceased by medical staff. The event began on April 15, 2025, after a visit to the UK Embassy in Abuja, where Okechukwu suddenly fell ill with a severe headache. She collapsed after suffering convulsions and ceased breathing.
Family members took her to two separate hospitals, both of which declared her dead. Seeking a third opinion, her brother consulted a doctor in the United Kingdom who directed them to Cedar Crest Hospital in Abuja. While staff there initially recommended transferring her to a morgue, a physician performed one final check and discovered a faint pulse. She was rushed to the emergency ward immediately.
Okechukwu remained unconscious for approximately two weeks. Medical imaging, including CT and MRI scans, showed brain swelling linked to a seizure, and she was later diagnosed with a partial stroke. Her recovery required intense rehabilitation, including relearning how to walk and managing temporary memory loss. Okechukwu credits her survival to divine intervention and has since focused on her faith, drawing comfort from spiritual guidance while undergoing successful follow-up medical care.
