UK temperatures to drop as heatwave finally concludes this weekend

A surge of cooler Atlantic air will sweep across the UK this weekend, finally ending a period of record-breaking heat, though south-eastern England will remain warm until Sunday.

The United Kingdom is set for a widespread drop in temperatures this weekend, signaling the end of a record-setting heatwave. While cooling begins for most regions, the heat will persist in eastern and south-eastern England throughout Saturday.

The Met Office has issued an amber alert for extreme heat effective until 9 p.m. on Saturday for East Anglia and the south-east. However, by Sunday, a cold front and shifts in wind patterns will pull fresh air from the Atlantic across the nation, resulting in more seasonal conditions.

Saturday will feature high temperatures in the upper twenties or low thirties across central and eastern regions, while northern areas experience cloud and scattered showers. By Sunday, the relief will be felt nationwide as cooler air settles in, bringing temperatures closer to the seasonal average, though some lingering warmth is expected in eastern parts.

Meteorologists note that while this heatwave is ending, the summer season is far from over. Long-term predictions indicate that above-average temperatures and additional heat bursts are probable before autumn begins on September 1. Data from the Met Office suggests that extreme summer heat is now twice as likely compared to the start of the century.
