Trevor Nelson steps back from BBC duties for health reasons

BBC presenter Trevor Nelson is taking a temporary leave from work to address health issues following a routine check-up.

Longtime BBC broadcaster and DJ Trevor Nelson has shared that he is stepping away from his professional commitments to focus on his health. Having recently marked three decades with the corporation, the 62-year-old radio personality noted he has been absent from his usual Radio 2 slot this week.

Nelson addressed his listeners and followers on Instagram, explaining that a routine medical check-up led to advice for follow-up testing. While he did not disclose specific details regarding his diagnosis, he emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation while he prioritizes his recovery. He intends to return to his radio shows and DJ work once he has fully recovered.

Lorna Clarke, the BBC’s director of music, expressed the company’s full support, stating that colleagues at Radio 2 and 1Xtra are wishing him a quick recovery. Nelson, who is widely recognized for his influence on the UK R’n’B scene, was honored earlier this week at the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) awards for his extensive broadcasting career.
