NLC Criticizes DSS for Aggressive Tactics During Sowore Arrest

The NLC has condemned the Department of State Services for its aggressive handling of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court, calling the actions a threat to Nigerian democracy.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has openly criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the actions of its agents during the detention of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. In a Thursday statement, NLC President Joe Ajaero labeled the event an embarrassment that compromises the nation’s democratic foundations.

The union denounced the chaotic environment and aggressive intimidation tactics utilized by the officers throughout the arrest. Ajaero expressed disbelief at the display, questioning the necessity of such public theatrics from an agency expected to maintain professional composure. He further raised alarms about the DSS acting as both the accusing party and the jailer in this legal matter, suggesting a conflict of roles that warrants investigation.
