A group representing retired Nigeria Airways employees has reported that the final N36 billion payment of their terminal benefits is currently stalled. The delay stems from the inability of government officials to retrieve the necessary presidential approval document.
A delegation consisting of Alhaji Ore Salako, Engr. Ayuba Kyari, Capt. Prex Porbeni, and Mr. Chris Aligbe traveled to Abuja from June 16 to 18, 2026, to investigate the situation. During meetings with the Ministries of Aviation and Finance, the team was informed that while the payment process is prepared, the missing paperwork has created a significant administrative hurdle.
Mr. Akor Abbah, a technical adviser, noted that the absence of the document from official records is the primary bottleneck for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. Since the N36 billion figure exceeds the minister’s spending limit, a new request may need to be forwarded to the president if the original file remains unrecovered.
The group has officially written to the Ministers of Finance and Aviation to urge a swift resolution. Despite the delay, the delegation characterized their trip as productive, as it successfully identified the specific obstacle preventing the distribution of funds to the pensioners.
