Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has established an administrative panel to look into the passing of a student at St. Louis College. Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, confirmed the formation of the committee in a formal announcement on Thursday.
Led by Education Commissioner Gwani Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda, the committee includes several legal, educational, and media officials. Hafsat Aminu Adhama will act as secretary for the group. The state government has directed the team to carry out a full and impartial review of the incident, including investigating the timeline of events and potential failures in school management or oversight.
The panel is expected to examine medical records, analyze the school’s social environment, and investigate reports regarding bullying or improper disciplinary actions. Furthermore, they will assess current safety standards and recommend improvements for boarding school management and emergency medical responses throughout Kano.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for a fair and professional investigation to ensure justice for 14-year-old JSS2 student Maimuna Sani, whose death last Saturday triggered concerns from her family. The committee is required to provide its final report and suggestions to the government within a specified period.
