Between July 2025 and June 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Plateau confiscated 9,488.186 kilograms of illegal substances. Anthony Gotar, the state Commander of Narcotics, shared these figures in Jos during the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He stated that these operations successfully fractured distribution chains and kept dangerous drugs out of local communities.
The agency apprehended 1,587 suspects, resulting in 71 convictions delivered by the courts. Additional cases are presently being heard at the Federal High Court as the command continues its prosecution efforts. Beyond enforcement, the agency provided treatment and counseling for 114 drug-dependent individuals at its rehabilitation facility. Furthermore, 900 users identified at known drug spots underwent brief counseling before being handed over to their families, reflecting a public health-oriented approach.
To lower drug demand, the command organized 209 awareness events in schools, religious centers, and public markets. Along with drug seizures, officers recovered various weapons, including three locally made pistols, two pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Four individuals linked to these arms were handed over to relevant security agencies. Moving forward, the NDLEA aims to intensify intelligence-led operations and leverage technology to combat narcotics trafficking throughout the region.
