Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes it is unlikely that Indian cricketers will join The Hundred or similar international franchise competitions in the near future. While IPL-affiliated ownership in some Hundred teams sparked speculation regarding potential player movement, current BCCI regulations continue to restrict men’s players from participating in overseas T20 leagues. Ashwin, who transitioned to global franchise cricket after retiring from international duties and the IPL, noted that the financial dominance of the IPL and the high marketability of Indian stars serve as primary deterrents to such expansion.
Despite his own involvement in leagues like Major League Cricket and a brief stint with the Sydney Thunder, Ashwin clarified that while individual exceptions may arise, a mass movement remains improbable. The conversation also turned to emerging talent, specifically 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Following the teenager’s record-breaking 11-ball half-century for India A, Ashwin lauded his innate ability and composure against experienced bowlers. As Sooryavanshi prepares for his international debut in upcoming T20 series, Ashwin advised that the youngster should prioritize enjoyment over the inevitable pressures of professional cricket.
