Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee Strips Mike Ozekhome of SAN Status

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has suspended Professor Mike Ozekhome’s Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank pending the outcome of active disciplinary proceedings.

Prominent human rights attorney and legal scholar, Professor Mike Ozekhome, has had his Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank suspended. This decision was reached by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) during their 173rd General Meeting.

Secretary to the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr. Kabiru Eniola Akanbi, released an official statement confirming the suspension. The action relies on Paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines governing the SAN rank. This measure will remain in effect until the disciplinary proceedings currently handled by the LPPC’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee reach a conclusion.

The committee noted that the suspension is necessary to protect the reputation and professional standing associated with the title. Consequently, Ozekhome is prohibited from representing himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the investigation concludes. The LPPC emphasized its ongoing dedication to maintaining strict ethical standards and public trust within the legal community.
