The Abia State Government has officially introduced the Strategy for Integrity, Accountability and Anti-Corruption Steering Committee. Members have been instructed to begin applying the state’s anti-corruption policies right away. This initiative aims to strengthen transparency and ethical governance throughout the public sector.
During the Wednesday ceremony in Umuahia, Head of Service Benson Ojeikere tasked the group with upholding high standards of integrity within public service. The committee is responsible for setting policy directions, tracking progress, and overcoming obstacles to meet their goals.
Representing Attorney General Ikechukwu Uwanna, Solicitor-General Paul Ogubunka identified corruption as a primary issue facing the nation’s public sector. Furthermore, Peter Omenka, the local coordinator for the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption program, stated that the committee will partner with civil society groups and various government agencies. The initiative focuses on fortifying legal frameworks, increasing access to justice for vulnerable groups, and promoting openness in government operations.
